The Human Library 2026

Organized by the Crawfordsville Public District Library and HUE

Join us next February/March, 2027 for the 3rd annual Human Library in Montgomery County, 10am-2pm at the Crawfordsville Public District Library (205 S. Washington St.).

The Human Library Organization is an international nonprofit organization begun in Denmark in 2000. Their concept of a "human library" is where people are "books" who have experienced stereotypes and stigmas due to their identity, choices, status, or occupation. Members of the public attend, choose a book title, and "read" that book by having a face-to-face conversation for 20-30 minutes. Readers are invited to be curious and ask questions they may normally be nervous to ask. Books are open stories. The goal is for both the books and readers to "unjudge someone."

History

The first Human Library in Montgomery County, Indiana occurred on March 1, 2025 at the CPDL!

The second was held on Feburary 28, 2026. This is an annual event. Look for it to return in late February or early March, 2027. Please contact us if you'd like to get involved!

HUE's Other Major Events
HUE's other annual, hallmark event is the Celebration of Unity, which occurs every September.
We organize many other activities throughout the year. Find those on our calendar, list of upcoming events, or program committees (FAELa ConexionVOICE, and The Collective).

Thank you for joining us in 2026 for the 2nd annual Human Library!
